Three Years Old in Pictures!
This little man turned three years old last month.
When I asked him when his birthday was, he said, "On the twenty-second."
(I didn't teach him that.)
He woke up to a pile of presents and balloons.
(Mainly because on the night before, in Target, Doug was racing through the store grabbing things left and right because, "I just love him so much!")

He came running into the living room yelling, 'Lookit all my BIRFDAYS!"
When we said, "Happy Birthday, Ollie!"
He said, "Happy Birthday to you too, guys!"

He said, "Happy Birthday to you too, guys!"
He had a birthday consisting completely of sugar; starting with a birthday donut,
followed by cupcakes at school and at my work, and finishing with a birthday ice cream.
While he requested three birthday cakes: Lightning McQueen, Ice Cream cake and Buzz Lightyear, Mama had another birthday plan in mind.
On a rainy 1st of June, Oliver invited 50 friends and family over to celebrate:
A PIRATE PARTY!
Mama pinterested the HELL out of the decorations and games, employing pirate talk websites, her own witticism and a surprising amount of creativity.
Check out the Cannon Balls (Cake pops made by Chris), Pirate Booty, Scurvy Prevention Cupcakes (lemon flavored), Gold Doubloons, Caribbean Sea Water (Kool-Aid) and Shark Bait (Goldfish).
The games started with a treasure hunt.
All the kids gathered in Ollie's room while I told them the story of
The Pirate Who Came Before...

The kids lined up behind Captain Oliver in order to follow the foot/peg prints to the next stop on the hunt...
Which was a big box of pirate clothes (provided by a co-worker of mine) for all to wear!
Now all pirated up (although many kids came already dressed in pirate gear), onward ho!
To ye treasure, me hearties!

The week before, I had stuffed 18 boxes with jewels, eyepatches, headwraps, telescopes, and had given each kid a sea-worthy title.
Then it was time to walk the plank,
Sing Happy Birthday,

Eat goodies, pin the treasure on the map, and PLAY OUTSIDE!
Thank you to my husband for allowing me my flights of fancy, thank you to Chris for making the Cannon Balls, thank you to Heather and Jennifer who captured the party since I couldn't, and thank you to all the parents who braved the house with sugar-crazed kids! All the kids seemed to leave covered in mud, frosting and smiles. I'd call that a successful party!
Here's 10 of the 18 rascals who could hold still for a minute...
Happy Birthday Ollie! Our favorite pirate of all!
