You guys, it's just words...
It's true what they say: as soon as your toddler is ready to talk, he'll just start talking up a storm. Ollie's really taking language for a ride lately and there's a significant uptick in talking in the Turk household!
From new words...
"Ah-sah" = Whisper
"Dumpah-tuck" = Dump truck
"Rockacocoa" = Rock 'n Roll
"Tow" = Cow
"Tar" = Car
"Hot-oo!" = Recognition of sneeze
"Way!" = Go away or Put away
"Ah-pee" = Airplane
"Dop ih!" = Stop it
"Moh peas" = More please
"Sheez" (Cheese) = Camera (not taking pictures, wanting to see pictures)
"Sah (breath) wee" = Sorry
To new songs...
Last night he sang me his ABCs over dinner. I distinctly heard D, F, Q, R, S, W, X, Y, Z and "Now I know my A B Cs..."
This morning, he sang in bed until it was time for us to come get him. Now that it's light when he wakes up, we need to remember to put books to bed with him so he can peruse them when we awakes.
To new phrases that, when taken out of context, could be delicious come high school graduation...
Things I've heard Doug say to Oliver:
To new conversations and learning what's in that little noggin!
He can identify his favorite friends at daycare: Wesley, Thomas and Bella. In the bath last night, Ollie told me that Wesley was at home. Oh, gotcha.
And, we actually had our first conversation yesterday. I mean, real exchange conversation where I learned something new from him. After receiving two bite accident reports (argh, he was doing so weeeeelllll...), I asked him on the way home who he bit and why. Our conversation:
Me: "Ollie, what did you do in school today?"
O: "Bite." (My boy seems to have inherited my "I feel guilty and I have to get it off my chest" syndrome)
Me: "Who did you bite, Oliver?"
O: "An-tee." (Anthony, who is a little shit anyway, but still)
Me: "Why did you bite, Anthony?"
Silence.
Me: "Did he take a toy away?"
Silence.
Me: "Who else did you bite, Ollie?"
O: "Missa." (Melissa - I don't think there's a kid named Melissa - only a teacher, so either I'm wrong with what he said, or he actually bit his teacher - OMG.)
Me: "Why did you bite Melissa?"
O: "Baby."
Me: "Did she have a baby?"
O: "Yeah!"
Me: "Did you take the baby from Melissa?"
Silence.
Me: "Did Melissa take the baby from you?"
O: "Yeah!" (You finally get it, Mom!)
Me: "Did you bite Melissa after she took your baby?"
O: "Yeah!"
Me: "Do we bite?"
O: "No!"
Me: "Because teeth are not..."
O: "Bite! No!"
Me: "That's right. Teeth are not for biting."
O: "Ouch!"
Me: "Yeah. Biting hurts."
O: "Sorry Mama." (Break my HEART)
O: "Missa, baby! Missa, baby! Baby tuck (truck)! Baby tuck!"
And then it went downhill from there with him repeating at the tops of his lungs and me about to drive the car off the road.
So talking has its pros and cons, but weigh it out and you'll find it's mostly fabulous. I'm so proud of my little!
